Impact of reproductive pattern of tabular
coral Acropora hyacinthus
This paper describes the reproductive pattern of the
dominant tabular coral Acropora hyacinthus in northwestern Philippines
from year 2014 - 2016. Our results reveal that this coral exhibits an
extended release of gametes, both within and among individual colonies,
from February to April; but major gamete release occurred in March.
Inter-annual variability in the spawning pattern (synchrony and timing
of gamete release among colonies) was also observed. The results of
this study are essential in understanding the variation of this coral’s
reproductive biology across geographic location. Also, this data
contributes to the increasing knowledge on the coral reproductive
strategies in the Philippines and provides information on availability
of coral materials for coral reef restoration efforts and recovery of
degraded coral communities
