Review of the Harvestman Genus Metadentobunus

Species of the Opiliones are commonly known as “harvestmen” or “daddy longlegs”. One Taiwan endemic genus, Metadentobunus, formerly with two species, is revised based on morphological and molecular evidence. This study finds that there are three species in this genus, and established one new species—M. brevispinus—from central Taiwan. In addition, the genus’ type species, M. formosae, is redescribed and a neotype is assigned for M. garampiensis. This study shows the 16S rDNA and COI DNA markers are useful for identifying species and have the potential to reveal new species.
