Regenerative Capacity of the Upside-down
Jellyfish
This manuscript provides evidence that the adult jellyfish
stage of C. xamachana has the
ability to regenerate virtually any structure from umbrellar tissue.
The regeneration process was triggered by an injury and ended with the
formation of two new sets of body structures. These types of
observations can lead to research to solve questions such as, why is
the medusa generation of structures regulated in such a way that it is
not normally observed at the level recorded here? Or, what are the
factors that stimulate pluripotentiality and then regeneration in
Scyphozoans? The use of appropriate experimental designs is essential
for understanding regeneration in non-bilaterian metazoans and its
evolution in the animal kingdom.
