Lacunipotamon
paper social media write up
Recent field expeditions in northern Vietnam uncovered a
multitude of new and spectacular freshwater crab species belonging to
the genus Lacunipotamon. The
genus was previously thought to be endemic to China, with only three
species prior, is now greatly expanded with eight new species, all from
karst systems in northern Vietnam. The new species of Lacunipotamon from Vietnam are all
noted for their brilliant and highly attractive colouration. The
discovery of not one, but eight new species highlight the high yet
sorely underestimated biodiversity in the poorly studied Vietnamese
karst systems.
