Benthic Hydroids from the Remote Macquarie
Ridge Region
We The study significantly enhances the understanding of
the diversity and endemism of benthic hydroids in the Macquarie Ridge
region. By documenting six new records and describing three species new
to science, the number of known species in the region is increased to
32. The study highlights the uniqueness and underexplored nature of the
region's hydrozoan fauna. This research contributes to marine
biogeography, highlighting the Macquarie Ridge as a potential
biogeographical bridge between the Southern Ocean and sub-Antarctic New
Zealand, thus emphasizing the need for further studies to fully
understand its ecological and evolutionary significance.
