Review of the Minute Brown Scavenger
Beetles of the Genus Corticarina (Coleoptera: Latridiidae) in Taiwan
Fungivorous beetles of the genus Corticarina, belonging to
Latridiidae, have never been comprehensively studied from Taiwan. This
is the first time we have reviewed the genus Corticarina from Taiwan. An
integrative approach to species delimitation was used based on
morphological examination and genetic analyses combined with sequences
of mitochondrial cytochrome oxidase subunit I (COI) and 28S ribosomal DNA. We
finally described a new species, C.
tenuis sp. nov., and confirmed two previously recorded species, C. bhutanensis Johnson and C. clareae Johnson. All of these
species are mainly distributed in mid- to high-altitude areas and can
be found on the withered part of leaves in Poaceae plants. However, the
recorded cosmopolitan species, C.
minuta (Fabricius), was not found in our study.
