Clubtail dragonflies (Phyllocycla, Gomphidae) in NW Argentina

We focused on predicting the current and future distribution of two species of clubtail dragonflies. These species are well-represented in collections as larvae but not as adults, which are difficult to collect. To address this, we associated the larval and adult stages of both species by rearing larvae and formally described the previously unknown forms. New diagnoses for all stages of both Phyllocycla species studied are presented. Larvae inhabit fine sediments (sand and silt) of piedmont and lowland rivers and streams in subtropical South America. Future scenarios indicate a higher elevation for their distribution ranges, which conflicts with the reduced availability of fine sediment habitats at higher altitudes.
