Hidden Caenorhabditis species on Ta Kou Mountain

This study reports the first discovery of a new Caenorhabditis species from Ta Kou Nature Reserve, Vietnam and provides its complete mitochondrial genome, contributing valuable data to global nematode diversity research. The finding from Ta Kou Mountain, a unique isolated mountain rising from the driest region of Vietnam yet capped with subtropical evergreen forest, underscores the ecological importance of such special habitats. Despite its limited area, Ta Kou Mountain offers a distinct microclimate that sustains diverse species. This work not only expands the known distribution of the genus Caenorhabditis but also emphasizes the need to conserve small, isolated ecosystems that serve as reservoirs of hidden biodiversity.
