Mapping the Global Diversity of Predatory Stink Bugs

This study presents the first comprehensive global analysis of Asopinae, a subfamily of predatory stink bugs (Pentatomidae). By compiling and organizing 5,831 distribution records from taxonomic revisions, catalogues, and collections, the authors developed the Asopinae of the World Database—an interactive online resource. The analyses reveal that species richness is highest in the Neotropical region, followed by the Indo-Malay, Palearctic, Afrotropical, Nearctic, and Australasian realms. The study also identifies 23 bioregions and 14 areas of endemism, highlighting discontinuous diversity patterns across ecoregions. This work provides a valuable foundation for future systematic, ecological, and applied research on Asopinae and contributes to a broader understanding of global insect biodiversity.
