Aardvarks Alter Their Behaviour in a Human Dominated Ecosystem

We studied aardvarks occurring around a human settlement, where there was shared habitat use. Aardvarks limited their foraging activities to the outskirts of the communal area, where people interfered with their dens by closing them with rocks to prevent snake habitation or using them to dump waste. There was also evidence of hunting in some of the dens, where digging and snaring occurred. People exerted pressure on the local aardvark population through various means of interference. Thus, the area used for feeding by aardvarks was limited by human presence and activities.
