Hannonia: A Review and Two New Species
Hannonia Hoek, 1881 (Arthropoda: Pycnogonida) is a rare and poorly studied sea spider genus, with only four species described along the Southern and Eastern African coasts, Gibraltar and the English Channel. The affinities of this genus with the familial classification of Pycnogonida are still unresolved. Here are reported two new species from the Southern coast of Madagascar, Hannonia arnaudae sp. nov. and Hannonia laurae sp. nov., sampled during the ATIMO VATAE expedition (Muséum national d'Histoire Naturelle survey, 2010), completed with additional material. The total diversity of the genus is reviewed, including a checklist of its records, its bathymetrical and geographical distribution. A new identification key is proposed.
